Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa - 500 WORD HOMEWORK
Roberto was born in 1975 and is now 43 years old. He is an American producer and screenwriter. Roberto was born in Washington D.C and he went to Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda Maryland and then followed by Georgetown University where he studied playwriting. He also got a master's degree in English Literature from McGill University. He also went and graduated from Yale.
Roberto started his career in 2003 when he started screenwriting. He written shows based on the Archie comics but received a cease and desist order if the show was ever to be shown. While continuing with his screenwriting he also started to write comic books. He grew up liking comic books and read them all the time as a child which is where his inspiration for writing them came from.
Roberto has always had an interest in the Archie comics and had always been making his own add ons to the comic book series to depict the characters and create a new storyline in his own way. In 2013, he created Afterlife with Archie, depicting Archie Andrews living within a zombie apocalypse, the book's success led to him being named Archie Comics' chief creative officer.
After creating comics for some time, he went back to making film & TV, he written a screen adaptation for the book Carrie written by Stephan King. This turned out into the 2013 supernatural horror film that is well known.
He has received many awards for his comic book writing, and also been nominated and won awards for TV shows he has created.
From his work in television, Roberto was the producer of 5 TV shows. 2 of the main ones being hugely popular shows Glee and Riverdale. With 6 Seasons and 121 episodes, Glee was a massive success for Roberto. It ran from 2009 to 2015. Roberto was recognised for his work on Glee when it was nominated for 19 Emmy awards and 4 golden globes. This is one of, if not the biggest highlight of Roberto’s career in the TV industry.
Going back to his days of comic book writing for Archie comics his ideas have now become a reality through his new show Riverdale, which is shown on the CW network and on Netflix. Riverdale is Roberto’s newest and current TV series which bases around the characters in the Archie comics in a town called Riverdale. Riverdale is hugely popular and has already been nominated for many awards while only still being in its third season.
I like and have selected Roberto because he is an example of someone who started from just studying screenwriting to now producing million-dollar budget shows for the worlds biggest streaming sites. His shows have a relatable feel and always have a thrilling feel to them that keep you on the edge of your seat.
The way he has moved his way up in the industry is inspiring. His shows are great as they have storylines that have never been seen before. This is great for the audience as they like shows that have a fresh new story and aren’t just a remake of something that’s been done before.
How he has brought Riverdale to life in this new show is amazing and I as a viewer really enjoy watching it.
